rue107: fashion for the urban goddess
Perry Boyce is always on the lookout for the newest trends in fashion, beauty and anything luxury that’s hitting the streets of NYC. As a result, the plus-size fashion industry has become the center of attention in NYC lately with the enormous amount of selections and styles in clothing, to having more plus-size women in the modeling industry representing the ideal woman. It gave more black designers the opportunity to express their creativity through designing clothes that would serve the plus-size and black community. Through our discovery we came across a black owned business known as Rue 107, founded by Marie Jean-Baptiste right here in New York City.
I recently discovered Rue 107 through Instagram, while looking for more website that offered plus-size clothing for a reasonable price. What immediately caught my attention were the bright colors and patterns of the outfits, which reminded me a lot of African/West Indian culture. The details and designs were totally different from what the plus-size fashion industry have been selling to woman like me for years. If anything the “big talk” over the years was that plus-size women shouldn’t wear patterns or horizontal stripes for it will emphasis their size more. And you know what Marie probably said to that? F this, I am going to design patterns and horizontal stripes anyways, regardless of what critics say.
Not only is her collection full of life, but it gives a sophisticated, classy vibe. Rue 107 gives both a laid back and luxurious style, giving the glamourous woman, who is always on the run a sense of luxurious style. From the cute circular skirts paired with dazzling earrings and heels to the sheer yellow jumpsuit with bold shades and a side braid, it’s everything a plus-size woman with a sense of luxury taste would need in her life. I actually purchased a cute, sheer lime green cover up from Rue 107 and when I wore it on the beach in DR, the stares were endless!
The pricing of her items can range anywhere from $69 to $180. Yes! I know it may be a bit pricey for your budget, but let’s be honest luxury style brings good quality which ends up being worth the money at the end. Even though Marie has mostly plus-size women modeling off her collection, she does offer sizes Small-Large as well. Looking to buy some items? Well you can shop online at rue107.com or if you’re in the NYC area make an appointment and stop by the boutique on 36th street in the garment district to view the collection.
Happy shopping, and Stay Fabulous!
